Last year, the government announced the implementation of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). At this announcement, 18-year-old Anousha Parashar was quite distressed. She felt that the efforts made by her for board exams will not reap any fruits. Moreover, she did not want to sit for another paper as she had already given two board exams in one year. However, CUET was unavoidable. It was made the only criterion through which she could get admission to her dream college.

In Class 12 board exams, Parashar scored 97 per cent marks. Moreover, in CUET UG 2022, she scored a perfect score of 800 out of 800. This article highlights her methodology of preparation for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). Currently, she is pursuing BA (Hons) from Lady Shri Ram College.

Preparation through repeated mock tests

She did not join any coaching centre as the syllabus of CUET was the same as of the CBSE board exams. However, she took a lot of mock tests. She referred to various mock tests from Top Rankers and Career Launchers. Moreover, in order to manage her time, she always put a timer for these tests. Also, she had a fair idea of the pattern as the term one of the CBSE board exams had MCQs. She also had a better idea of how to attempt a question.

Procurement of Study material

Her teachers and seniors did not have much clue about how to prepare for the exam as CUET was happening for the first time. Therefore, she had to do her own research. She focussed only on her boards during her boards. Later, she stated her preparation for CUET. The approach for both exams was different even though the syllabus for both exams was the same.

Opinion of the candidate on CUET

Anousha Parashar feels that CUET is a good step taken by the government even though she had been a little apprehensive in the initial stages. Compared to other boards, she believes that CBSE has a stricter marking system. However, all the candidates are brought to the same level through CUET. For all boards, CUET is a common platform.

The concept of CUET is good and flexible. For any combination, students can fill in forms. Moreover, more option is provided to the students for everything. However, during the second shift, she had to face technical glitches. On the day of the exam, many students were informed that their exam has been postponed. Therefore, they had to return from the exam centre. She hopes that this time it does not happen.

Comparing the toughness: CBSE Boards vs CUET

In subjects like English, she felt that CUET was easier than boards. Many questions were basic and included identifying verbs, adverbs, etc. Moreover, the questions from the Comprehension part were also easy.
