Students are heading to universities in the United States with the Fall session just around the corner. They are now engaged in putting the final touches on their applications for student visas. By mid-May, the first batch of student visa appointments will be opened by the US Consulates in India. Below are some tips to ace your student visa interview to the US.
First attempt is the best attempt
At a student visa interview, the first attempt is the best opportunity for the candidate. Moreover, a negative impression is given off by a second attempt due to the earlier refusal. At the first time, the worst thing a student visa applicant can do is to convey as little as possible at the visa interview. Everyone is presumed to have immigrant intent at the interview to start with.
Therefore, they must prove their eligibility. It is a very bad idea to be quiet at the interview. Students must take control of the interview by introducing themselves. They must also highlight their strong points which could be their academic qualifications, financial status, etc. Students must demonstrate their expertise in the subject that they are planning to study. Moreover, the most important point they must make in the visa interview is the reason behind their planning to study the chosen course in the US.

For certain first-time, F, M and academic J applicants who are citizens or nationals of a country, in-person interviews can also be waived under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). However, they must have no apparent ineligibility or potential ineligibility. By using an authorization obtained through Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA), they must also have previously travelled to the United States.
An interview waiver can also be obtained by applicants who are renewing a visa within 48 months of the prior visa’s expiration in the same classification. However, taking the local conditions into account, an in-person interview is still required by consular officers on a case-by-case basis.
