Significance Behind Indian Degrees being recognized in Australia
Introduction to the Australia-India Education Qualification Recognition Mechanism
Under the Australia-India Education Qualification Recognition scheme, degrees attained in India will be recognized in Australia while degrees attained in Australia will be recognized in India. However, under this agreement, professional qualifications such as medicine, engineering and law are not included.
According to the Australian Prime Minister, this is the most comprehensive and ambitious arrangement which has been agreed to by India with any country. Moreover, this will pave a way for commercial opportunities for Australian education providers. Therefore, they will be able to provide more accessible and innovative education to Indian students.
Also, a solid basis is provided for educational institutions which will help them consider new ways to partner with each other. This agreement is a fantastic piece of work with tangible benefits. According to this new mechanism, your degree will be recognized when you return home if you are an Indian student who is studying or have studied in Australia.
Also, you can be more confident that your Indian qualification will be recognized in Australia if you are a member of the very large Indian diaspora in Australia. This mechanism was agreed to when the Education Minister of Australia visited Delhi last week. The Education Minister of Australia stated that India has other agreements with countries like the US.
However, this agreement is quite broader than the agreement with the US. This is because apart from recognizing courses that Australian universities can run in India or at a standalone campus that is being set up, it also includes the recognition of online courses.
Launching of the Maitri Scholarship
A new scholarship namely Maitri (friendship) scholarship has also been announced by the Australian Prime Minister. This will enable Indian students to study in Australia for up to four years. The scholarships are offered as a part of the wider Maitri program. It seeks to boost educational, cultural and community ties between India and Australia.
In a statement, the Australian government stated that it had launched three Maitri scholarships. This will foster Australia-India cooperation, understanding, creativity, and exchange. This Scholarship Program will attract high-achieving Indian students and support them to study at Australian universities. Moreover, it will also enable the showcasing of Australia’s globally renowned academic and research institutions, particularly in the fields of STEM and Health.
Great Honour for Australia to set up campuses in India
The Prime Minister of Australia stated that it was a great honor for Deakin University to set up its international campus in India. Moreover, he deemed it a great honor for Australia that a university from Australia would be the first in India to set up an international campus. Also, the University of Wollongong is intending to set up a campus at GIFT City. This will enable Australia to welcome foreign students. Moreover, this year, the students will be back in large numbers.
It is not possible for everyone to pack up their lives and study in another country due to various reasons such as financial constraints or family commitments. The Campus being established in GIFT City will enable the study of students from as well as from Australia. Also, the Chief Minister of Gujarat stated that, under the guidance of the Prime Minister, the state has made it its mission to become a national and international education hub.
Gujarat had also previously entered into a sister-city agreement with New South Wales of Australia in 2018. Thus, Australia and Gujarat have been enjoying people-to-people connections for a long time. The Free Trade Agreement will now be giving a new height to the bilateral relations between India and Australia. As Gujarat is a growing engine of development, it will get a special benefit from the bilateral ties.
It was stated by the Vice Chancellor of Deakin University that by 2024, the international campus at GIFT City would be operational. Initially, the University will offer two courses in cyber security and business analytics. Each course will house 60 students.

They will spend the first two years studying within the country, followed by two years in Melbourne on campus. Also, students will be allowed to study up to six master’s subjects in their final year.
