This year onwards, Every student enrolling in Delhi University must register compulsorily in the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC) portal. The portal contains information on the number of credits earned by individual students. It is a virtual storehouse of academic credits for records of an individual.
This initiative provides credit mobility. It helps them to redeem credits that they have earned in different universities. In the end, these credits can be consolidated to get a certificate or diploma or degree. This is similar to having a bank account. The credit account adds four credits on passing the course.
This is advantageous while doing additional courses where credit mobility is possible. The University will be adopting an Undergraduate Curriculum Framework this year. The UGCF will bring systemic change to the higher education system.
NEP comprises several features of the UGC which are necessary for higher education in the university. It includes the multidisciplinary approach and the multiple entries and exit scheme. UGCF offers a total of 176 credits. Students must earn a minimum of 50 per cent credits in a discipline to secure a four-year UG degree in that discipline.
