The University Grants Commission (UGC) has mailed JMI and AMU stating that all central universities have to adopt the entrance test mandatorily for admission to all the courses. The Chairman of the UGC stated that CUET is compulsory for all central universities from the 2023 academic session onwards. The CUET scores must only be used for all categories even if there are reservations for a particular category of students in a central university.

Hesitancy among Private Universities for CUET

CUET 2023 has been adopted this time by BML Munjal University, Lovely Professional University (LPU), GD Goenka University, SRM University, Galgotias University and many more. However, due to the history of technical glitches and a delay in the process of admissions, not all universities are sure about the entrance test introduced by UGC.

The UGC Chairman stated that there will be no delay in admissions this year with the examination scheduled to take place between 21- 31 May and results scheduled to be announced in June. On the first week of July, the admission process will begin. Moreover, Classes are scheduled to begin on August 1. Thus, no delay will be encountered in the admission process.

Also, the UGC Chairman confirmed that they have been working right from the beginning in order to make sure that the test centres with suitable infrastructure are chosen. Thus, CUET-UG is expected to be conducted smoothly this year.

Admissions to BHU 2023

The Registration process for admissions to UG and PG courses at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) will begin in the last week of May 2023. In order to apply for BHU 2023 admissions, candidates must appear in the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG 2023). From the official website of CUET, cuet.samarth.ac.in, candidates can apply for CUET 2023 registration. For admission in such courses, candidates will be selected in order of merit depending upon the marks secured in CUET.

CUET Examination for foreign, NRI and OCI candidates

CUET has now been decided by the NTA to be allowed for NRI and OCI candidates. Candidates must select their nationality in the online application form of CUET (UG) 2023 in the dropdown as either Indian, OCI, NRI or foreign. Also, CUET (UG) 2023 will be conducted in 24 cities outside India in order to facilitate the foreign, OCI and NRI candidates.

For admissions to UG courses in Indian Universities, CUET-UG is not compulsory for candidates having a foreign passport. For admitting foreign students, each university may have its own transparent admission process. However, foreign students who wish to write CUET-UG in foreign countries in the 24 test centres can write. However, the university is the final deciding authority to choose the CUET-UG score for admission or other means.

Notice Given to students from Tamil Nadu

As the candidates who cleared their class 10 exams from the Tamil Nadu board were only awarded a ‘pass’ comment due to the Covid-19 pandemic, they will not have to fill in their marks now. It was stated by the NTA that they had received several complaints from Tamil Nadu students. The students had informed that due to the Covid outbreak, examinations were not conducted for the batch of class 10. Therefore, no marks were given in the mark sheet and only a ‘pass’ was printed in all subjects along with a disclaimer.

New Help Centres for the Examination

In order to ensure that the CUET UG 2023 is conducted smoothly, examination help centres have been launched by the NTA across the country. The official CUET UG website cuet.samarth.ac.in provides the locations and details of these centres. 24 centres have been established across the country. One dedicated technical person will be present in each centre. They will be in charge and they will be helping the applicants in filling their forms. The service offered by these centres is free of cost. Thus, all the students are advised to go to the help centres along with their required documents and fill in the form correctly.
