India has improved its position in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject led by its Institutes of Eminence (IoE). It has been seen that 44 courses that are offered for study in the higher educational institutes of the country have ranked among the global top 100 in their respective subject categories.

It has been shown by the rankings released that the 11 declared Institutes of Eminence account for 44 per cent of the total 355 programs offered by universities in India. This has made it to the overall rankings. There were a total of 299 entries in the previous round which included 35 among the top 100 programs featured.

It has been seen that the rankings cover 54 academic disciplines. It is evident that Indian universities perform well in the fields of Chemistry, Computer Science, Business Studies, Biological Sciences, and Physics. Among the Institutes of Eminence, except Delhi Universities, it was found that more courses offered by other institutes have gained better places compared to ones that slipped. However, when it comes to the DU, 27 programs have been featured in the QS list. Out of them, seven programs have improved their ranks, while the ranks of 12 declined.

An institute with a Perfect Score

The dentistry program offered by the Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, for the second consecutive year, has obtained the 13th rank on the global level, thereby posting the best performance among Indian institutes. It was ranked 18th last year. In both Citations per Paper and H Index, it is the only Indian university to achieve a perfect score (100/100).

In these tables, the next two universities that have been ranked highest are the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) and the Indian School of Mines (ISM) University, Dhanbad. The IITM has placed 21st in Petroleum Engineering which is an increase of 9 places and the ISM has placed 25th which is an increase of one place in Engineering – Mineral and Mining.
