Indians are the largest group of international students in the UK because UK\’s graduate route allows Indian students to launch a global career.
For talented young people, the UK has always been attractive. In the UK, Indians form one of the largest groups of international students. Over the past three years, with a 96% student visa acceptance rate, about 1,65,000 Indians have acquired student visas for the UK.
As many as 107,978 Indian students were issued study visas to the UK, in the year ending March 2022. This is a significant rise of 93% compared to the earlier years. This is attributed to the presence of renowned educational institutions that offer world-class infrastructure, faculty, and quality of studying and living. Moreover, the UK offers the opportunity for students to pursue their dream careers in the UK.
THE GRADUATE ROUTE
The UK and India have worked together on key strategic initiatives. This is to provide mutual benefit for students across the UK and India. The Graduate Route was launched by the UK in July 2021. This allows international students to stay in the UK for two years to work or look for work.
Thus, the UK has opened a world of possibilities for international students. Talented international students are provided with the opportunity to stay in the country and bring positive socio-economic impact.
HOW THE GRADUATE ROUTE OFFERS EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
India and the UK are working to support student mobility. This would create better opportunities for Indian students to acquire success in the global market. The launch of the Graduate Route allows graduates to set up their businesses in the UK. This shows the efforts of UK for extending support to the Indian students.
Smart and brightest graduates are offered with the opportunity to pursue UK education along with post-study employment opportunities. The UK works on developing students into global leaders who will be capable of employment anywhere in the world.
This would offer a significant impact on the return on their investment. Thus, Indian students have been considering the UK to pursue higher education abroad. For promoting transnational education, Universities in the UK are also focused on growing relationships with Indian academic institutions.
The Graduate Route can strongly propel the efforts further which would bring in more partnerships. Thus, there would be a greater exchange of knowledge, students, faculty and best practices. Therefore, the Graduate Route will improve the capabilities of UK institutions and global outlook.
MORE INITIATIVES FOR INDIAN STUDENTS
The UK, over the past two years, has worked towards streamlining the path for international students. It focuses mainly on India as education, innovation and research are India-UK bilateral relationship\’s key pillars.
India-UK Roadmap 2030 was announced last year for deeper collaboration between India and the UK. This will allow for more exchange of knowledge and ideas between institutions. Therefore, there will be a two-way mobility of students, teachers and researchers.
The UK will also be providing Priority and Super Priority visas for Indian students in the next academic session. It has also signed an MoU on the mutual recognition of academic qualifications to recognise academic qualifications from UG and PG to doctorate degrees. This shows the efforts of Indian and UK towards empowering students.
