National Institutional Ranking Framework 2022 released

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2022 was released by the Union Education Minister and it is available on the official website of the ranking platform nirfindia.org. IIT-Madras has ranked in the top position in the overall educational institutes and engineering categories this year. The institution has also ranked second position in the newly introduced research category.

The ranking has been announced for 11 categories including overall, university, college, pharmacy, management, engineering, medical, architecture, ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements), research institutions and law.

The ranking framework judges institutions under five broad generic groups pf parameters of Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR), Graduation Outcomes (GO), Research and Professional Practice (RP), Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) and Perception (PR). Ranks are assigned on the basis of the total sum of marks that are assigned for each of these five broad groups of parameters.

The All India Institute of Medical Science in Delhi has been ranked as the best medical college in India followed by the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh and CMC, Vellore. The institutions in the top 10 list include the seven IITs; Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru; All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi; and Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru has topped in the university category followed by JNU, Jamia Millia Islamia, West Bengal’s Jadavpur University, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore. Jamia Hamdard bagged the top rank among the pharmacy institutions followed by the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Hyderabad and Punjab University, Chandigarh.

Five of the top 10 best colleges were from Delhi in the college category, with Miranda House on the top, followed by Hindu College and Presidency College, Chennai. IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bengaluru and IIM Calcutta are ranked as the top three management institutions in the country.

The Vice-Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University has credited the second rank of the University to teamwork and stated that single subject instituted do not have the kind of problems faced by the university. It was also stated that the JNU is moving towards different areas of innovation while keeping in touch with its inclusivity. JNU is also set to start the School of Indian Languages and is looking forward to strengthening the Science programs.

However, Punjab University has slipped three ranks to 41st among the educational institutions and among the university category, the institution has dropped to 25th. However, the overall score of the university improved to 51.23 from 50.31. The university slipped to the second position in the Pharmacy category which was topped by Jamia Hamdard in Delhi followed by the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, Hyderabad.

Punjab University has slipped to the 92nd position this year in the engineering category and in the research category, the institute has slipped to the 29th position. IIT Ropar has also slipped to the 35th position this year and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali has dropped to the 47th rank.

Chandigarh University, Gharuan rose to the 48th position from the 77th spot and it has ranked 29th in the university category. Tapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala has got the 57th rank in the overall category and 31st among the university category.

Among universities, Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management, Solan, was ranked 96th and the Government Home Science College, Sector 10, Chandigarh has been figured among the top 50 colleges of the country and has remained in the top 100 colleges for three consecutive years.
