The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has proved to be the most sought-after academic destination in terms of research according to the QS World University Rankings 2023. The IISc has raised 31 places to the rank of 155 in a year and has become the highest placed Indian Institution pushing IIT-Bombay and IIT-Delhi to the 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
Senior professors believe that the institute has introduced dramatic changes in its operations and the infrastructural growth has led to the improvement of the institutions. The year 2021-2022 witnessed a significant increase in high-impact research papers produced by younger faculty members due to the strong infrastructure for research.
Startup health cares benefitted a lot with the research around Covid-19 vaccination, oxygen cylinders, ventilators, etc. Although the research labs were closed due to Covid-19, it was opened gradually allowing the resuming of research work.
Institutes were ranked based on academic reputation, faculty-student ratio, employer reputation, citations per faculty and international students ratio. The key reason behind the excelling of the institution is the academic freedom to think, design and execute that naturally helps to do better science. This creation has helped in various innovations for the benefit of the society.
However, some faculties believe that the institution has scope for improvement in attracting international students. The kind of intellect and ideas brought by international students have been remarkable and interesting breakthroughs have been achieved.
Students claim that IISc provides a cultural vibe, inclusivity, greenery around the campus, infrastructure and innovative research work which can be explored with freedom. Moreover, the curriculum is designed in such a way that 70 per cent of it relies in research and only 30 per cent on course work.
This kind of a curriculum makes the students research-inclined and helps in exploring more innovations. The digital infrastructure has also significantly improved that helps the students work on research projects.
