Chevening is the international scholarships program offered by the government of the United Kingdom, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. On a fully funded master’s degree course, awards are offered through this scholarship to study in the UK for one year.

Eligibility for a Chevening Scholarship

A candidate must be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible territory or country in order to be eligible for the scholarship. The candidate must return to their country of citizenship after the end of the award for a minimum of two years. Moreover, the candidate must have completed all the components of an undergraduate degree.

By the time the candidate submits their application, this will enable them to gain entry into a postgraduate program at a UK university. In the UK, this is typically equivalent to an upper second-class 2:1 honors degree. However, depending on the course and university choice of the candidate, this may be different.

Experience of Work

You must have at least two years or 2,800 hours of work experience in order to be eligible for Chevening Scholarships. The work experience types that are eligible for the Chevening scholarship include Full-time employment, Part-time employment, Voluntary work, and Paid or unpaid internships. The work experience can be completed after graduating from your undergraduate studies. This can also be done before or during your undergraduate studies. However, towards your undergraduate or postgraduate course, any mandatory employment that counted will not be eligible.

Calculation of your work experience

Automatically by multiplying the number of weeks worked by the number of hours worked per week, your entries will be calculated. A working year comprises 40 to 50 weeks and a working week comprises 35 to 60 hours for this calculation. However, it will be deemed ineligible if the work experience exceeds the upper limit for full-time employment. In one period of employment, you need not meet the requirement of work experience. In order to meet the requirement, applicants can submit up to fifteen different employment periods.

Elements covered under Chevening Scholarship

The Chevening Scholarship covers the payment of tuition fees, an arrival allowance, economy travel to and from your country of residence by an approved route for the candidate alone, the cost of an entry clearance application for the candidate alone, a departure allowance, a contribution for TB testing where ever required, a monthly personal living allowance in order to cover living expenses and accommodation and a travel top up allowance.
