Four-year UG courses compulsory for a degree with honours - UGC

In order to obtain a UG honours degree, a student must complete a four-year program. They will be offered 160 credits. Students who have already enrolled in a three-year UG program as per the existing CBCS to pursue an FYUP will be provided with bridge courses. This will enable them to make the transition.

Under new regulations of the UGC, students who wish to graduate with honours in any subject must pursue a four-year undergraduate program. However, this will not impact those who have taken admission to FYUP offered by Delhi University. Even for those who exit after three semesters, this course allows graduation with honours.

Draft Regulations of the UGC

The UGC has made a public draft of the regulations that were proposed. However, the UGC did not give the reason behind approving a policy that differs from the one that already exists in DU. However, the regulations will provide students with a lot of options who are graduating with majors and minors.

After successful completion of three years, in the Major discipline, students who wish to undergo a 3-year UG program will be awarded UG Degree. They will be given 120 credits which will satisfy the minimum requirements of credit.

Moreover, these changes are in accordance with the National Education Policy, 2020. A four-year program will give students the opportunity to experience multidisciplinary education. They will also be able to focus on their chosen major and minors as per their choice.

This year onwards, students have been admitted to DU through the CUET exam. Students must, therefore, formulate a plan on how to practice for their CUET exam at the earliest. This is in order to get into DU and other central universities.
