One of the biggest exams in India is the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). The comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in engineering and science of the candidate is tested through this entrance exam. By seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, the examination is conducted annually on a rotational basis.

The Seven IITs include Delhi, Bombay, Guwahati, Kanpur, Madras, Roorkee and Kharagpur. The examination is conducted on behalf of the National Coordination Board. The GATE score is used for admissions to various post-graduate programs in India. However, these GATE scores are also considered as eligibility by some institutes in Germany and Singapore.

Nanyang Technological University, Singapore

Nanyang Technological University is a Singapore-based university. This university accepts the GATE score for admission into postgraduate programs. In this university, it is compulsory for all international students to provide GRE and TOEFL scores. However, candidates from India can replace GRE with GATE, and IELTS with TOEFL. The minimum GATE percentile score must be more than or equivalent to 90 per cent according to the official website. However, the duration of the GATE score must not have exceeded three years.

Technical University of Munich

The technical university is based in Germany. This university has given candidates from India the option to replace GRE with GATE scores. Moreover, a separate GATE eligibility certificate need not be provided by graduates with a degree from an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT). Also, one does not need to provide a GATE or GRE when applying for Studienkolleg.

All the master’s degree programs offered in this university by the Department of Informatics require a GATE score in which the minimum score is QR 164, AW 4.0. There are other courses in this university that require a GATE score which include:

  • MSc Mathematics in Data Science,
  • MSc Materials Science, and Engineering,
  • MSc Matter to Life,
  • MSc Computational Mechanics,
  • MSc ESCAPE,
  • MSc Environmental Engineering.

RWTH Aachen University (Germany)

Indian students who have a minimum grade in the school leaving certificate and have passed additional entrance exam can be admitted into the RWTH Aachen University. However, this criterion holds good only for the masters-level programs offered at the university.

National University of Singapore

The freedom to replace the GRE exam with GATE is given to the National University of Singapore. However, according to the guidelines of the university, candidates who have graduated from universities in India may submit GATE scores instead. This criterion holds good specifically for masters level programs such as:

  • Masters in Computer Science,
  • Master of Computing – Information Systems Specialisation
  • Master of Computing – Infocomm Security Specialisation
  • Master of Computing – Artificial Intelligence Specialisation
  • Master of Computing – General Track
  • Master of Science – Digital Financial Technology (MSc DFinTech).
