Recently, after the government notified the rules, GIFT City formed an expert committee in October 2022. The members of the Committee are well-known educationists recruited from across the country. The GIFT City of Gujarat has formed an expert committee of three members comprising eminent academicians. It will scrutinize and evaluate the applications from foreign universities that wish to set up their offshore campuses in the Indian subcontinent. The committee is headed by the present Vice-Chancellor of BHU and the founding director of IIT, Gandhinagar. The other members are the current IITGN director and the founding dean of the Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.

Since its formation, in over one month, the committee has met three times in order to understand the mandate and functioning of the panel and other necessary things. Recently, a meeting was held in the third week of February in order to look into the application of the Deakin University of Australia which is the first foreign institute to apply for setting up its campus within India. The Australian Prime Minister will officially announce the Deakin University campus in GIFT-City on March 8 during his visit to Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
When it was inquired about the status of the application of Deakin University, it was stated that they had two rounds of meetings with Deakin University. The process of forwarding them to the Board of Directors of GIFT City is still underway. Moreover, work is been carried out on at least two or three more applications by the GIFT City and they are currently being scrutinized.
