Experience of a student who scored full marks in CUET UG 2022

As CUET UG was happening for the first time, there was a lot of confusion regarding the examination. Students got to know that they would have to appear for an examination in order to get admission to Central Universities only in the month of December. She got a course from a coaching institute called “Supergrads” in the month of March. She undertook aptitude and English courses from there. However, later she changed her course from aptitude based to domain-specific when she got to know that there would be no general test.

Archita Kaur is a student from Johrat who secured 800 out of 800 in CUET UG 2022. However, her score in the CBSE Class 12 board exam was 97.6 per cent. She says that the Common University Entrance Test helped her in getting admission to her preferred course in her dream college. Currently, Archita Kaur is studying at Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi (DU) and is pursuing a BA (Hons) in Psychology. This article provides you with insight into her CUET experience and how she secured full marks in the exam.

From subjective to objective – A transition

She states that it wasn’t very difficult for her to transition from the subjective type to the objective type. She found Multiple Choice Questions not to be very confusing. Moreover, she had to answer only 40 questions out of the given 50 questions. Therefore, she attempted only those questions that she was sure about. She was required to appear for one language subject and three domain subjects for her choice of course. She chose English as her language. Moreover, her domain subjects were Psychology, Political Science and History.

The most ambiguous part – English

As there was no definite syllabus, English was the most ambiguous. Therefore, she had to go through the syllabus and regularly practice topics such as poetic devices, reading comprehension, synonyms and antonyms. The major chunk of the question paper was the Reading comprehension part. She found three reading comprehension in her CUET paper. In it, there was a total of 15 sub-questions which included reframing of jumbled sentences, synonyms, antonyms and poetic devices.

Preparation amidst ambiguity – The Difficult Aspect

As CUET UG was happening for the first time, there was a lot of confusion regarding the examination. Students got to know that they would have to appear for an examination in order to get admission to Central Universities only in the month of December. She got a course from a coaching institute called “Supergrads” in the month of March. She undertook aptitude and English courses from there. However, later she changed her course from aptitude based to domain-specific when she got to know that there would be no general test.

Many mock tests were given by the coaching. Moreover, the exam preparation was aided by many online videos. She took up these mock tests and watched online videos in addition to the constant revision of NCERT textbooks. As CUET is an NCERT-based exam, most of the syllabus was completed in school. She found the mock tests which she gave, beneficial.

The best thing that happened – CUET UG

As CUET was being conducted for the first time, it was an exhausting experience. Moreover, there was so much ambiguity around it. However, the sample question paper was released by the NTA so that the students could have an idea. She states that CUET was the best thing that happened. It is due to the fact that with the board examination percentage, it is very difficult to get admission into top-notch DU colleges. She also states that she would have never got admission with her percentage of Board Exams to LSR. For all the students, CUET played a leveller. It has also made admissions more accessible to universities like the University of Delhi.

Recommended Changes

There were a lot of gaps like technical glitches during her time. Therefore, she suggests that there should be smooth functioning. All of the computers got blacked out during one of her exams.

Mandatory study of NCERT

Students must go through NCERT very thoroughly. They must also give a lot of mocks. This will boost the confidence of the students. Moreover, students will find the exam as another mock.
