Expansion of CUET UG 2023 Examination Centres

Expansion of CUET UG 2023 Examination Centres

The NTA has expanded the number of centres further this time and has provided a choice of centres in more countries. The countries include the United States, Austria, Australia, South Africa, Singapore, Canada, Russia, Nigeria, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Brazil, among others. As many countries have a considerable presence of the Indian diaspora, the National Testing Agency has decided to expand the number of centres.

The Common University Entrance Test for Undergraduate admissions or CUET UG 2023 has been extended by the National Testing Agency. This year, the examination will be conducted in as many as 24 countries. Cities such as Vienna, Washington DC, Sydney, Cape Town and Ottawa, among others, are likely to host CUET UG 2023 examination centres. The last date for submission of the application forms for the second edition of the CUET UG 2023 examination is March 12. The examination is anticipated to be conducted from May 21 to 31, 2023.

Overseas Examination Centres

The National Testing Agency allowed candidates to attend their examinations in 13 overseas cities during the first edition conducted last year. Most of the centres were in the Middle East and South Asia and included cities such as Bahrain, Doha, Colombo, Kathmandu, Dubai, Muscat, Kuwait, Sharjah, Riyadh and Singapore, among others.

Unofficial requests from the Indian Diaspora

The Chairman of the University Grants Commission stated that the National Testing Agency has identified such cities throughout the world. This year, it has decided to provide these options for such a crucial entrance exam necessary to secure undergraduate admissions. The Indian diaspora has sent unofficial requests to the University Grants Commission through Indian embassies present in some of these countries. The UGC wishes to give equal opportunity to all the students who have the desire to study in Central universities of India.

In these cities, the centres will be set up if there are a sufficient number of candidates opting for the examination. Once the registration process is over, the University Grants Commission will coordinate with Indian embassies. The CUET UG is a mandatory yardstick for acquiring admissions to undergraduate courses in all central universities.

Moreover, this examination is made an optional criterion for admissions to other central universities. Last year, nearly 14,90,000 candidates applied for the examination in which over 54,000 subject combinations were offered. There was a 60 per cent attendance in the debut edition of the exam. The examination was also faced with many technical glitches.

Increase in Centres within India

The National Testing Agency will be increasing the number of centres in which the examination is conducted within the country. Enough time will be given for the centres to upload and download the question papers. This will avoid any technical issues and help in conducting the examination smoothly.

According to the information bulletin of NTA’s CUET UG, the candidates will be allotted the city of examination in the order of preference filled by them in their application form. However, a different city can be allotted due to administrative/logistic reasons. But, the candidates can be assured that the choice of centre cities will be limited only to the state of present address or state of permanent address.

In the meantime, the number of subjects that can be opted for by the students has been increased by the NTA. Students can opt for 10 subjects instead of nine this year. The exam will be conducted on multiple days similar to last year in three shifts. However, this will depend on the number of candidates and the choices of subjects.
