EWS Quota will not affect the number of seats in other categories

The decision to grant a 10% quota under the EWS in admissions will not impact the seats under other categories.

The decision to grant a 10% quota under the EWS in admissions will not impact the seats under other categories. This will not affect the general and reserved categories. There will be an addition of 2,13,766 seats, i.e., 25% of seats to those that exist in higher educational institutions.

The government has allocated Rs.4315 crores to central higher educational institutions in order to create additional infrastructure. This initiative is to compensate for the raising demand for seats. Most of the lawyers opposed the EWS quota.

Lawyers opposed the inclusion of EWS reservations as the poor belonging to the SCs, STs and OBCs were excluded from the ambit of EWS. However, the decision to increase the number of seats has come as good news as this will not affect the reservation pattern of the general and other reserved categories.
