- In order to reduce the dropout rate in Classes 1 to 12, to lower the transition rates in schools and to strengthen the education system, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Bihar Education Department has been made chairman of the committee constituted by the Centre.
- The Centre will be introducing a new policy to improve the percentage of students advancing from one level to the next level of schooling and thus, a committee was recently set up to prepare the road map whose report will be submitted to the Centre by the end of December.
- Secretaries of Education from Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir and Tamil Nadu have been made members of the committee and several academics of the country will give their opinions.
- The final recommendations will be made and the report will be submitted by the end of this month to ensure a 100% gross enrolment ratio in the country. As the ratio of dropouts has been increasing, this initiative will help in the increase of GER.
