The university has announced a scheme of financial support that will provide waivers in fees to students who are economically weak in line with this commitment. The benefit of the fee waiver scheme of the university has reached more than a thousand students studying at the University of Delhi so far from a poor financial background so far. Full waiver of their fees has been received by eighty per cent of them. Moreover, the total benefits account for more than Rs 1 crore.
Last year, in November, the fee-waiver scheme was announced by DU. This fee-waiver scheme has all components of the fees paid by the students included in it. So far, 1009 students who are needy have received benefits of about Rs 1 crore under the Financial Support Scheme (FSS) launched by the University of Delhi.

The necessary data was collected by the Dean of the Students Welfare Office from the deserving candidates. For this scheme, around 1,700 applications were received from students from weak financial backgrounds. Around 1,340 candidates were shortlisted after due verification such as the home visit of the applicants. These candidates were asked to submit some undertakings and documents. The documents of 1,009 students were received and therefore, the list of students’ fee waiver disbursement is finalized.
Moreover, this scheme reflects the motto of the Government of India which states that “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas”. The DU has committed to extending the benefits of equity, quality education, and access to students from financially weak backgrounds as it has recognized affirmative action as enshrined by the Constitution of India.

Up to 100 per cent fee waiver can be availed by students belonging to financially weak backgrounds. This criterion will depend on their family income. This scheme can be applied by a full-time bona fide student studying at the university. The eligibility of up to a 100 per cent fee waiver can be availed by a student with an annual family income of less than Rs 4 lakh. However, a 50 per cent fee waiver can be applied by students with an annual family income of Rs 4 lakh to Rs 8 lakh per year.
