Delhi University suspends online classes till May 16

The decision to suspend classes was taken keeping in mind that many students and teachers were suffering or recovering from Covid-19 or had family members suffering and hence participation from both sides seemed in doubt. There had been numerous complaints and applications from students across different colleges of DU requesting suspension of online classes and the University decided to act upon them due to the extraordinary health crisis in Delhi.

DU Registrar Dr.Vikas Gupta, who issued the notice regarding the suspension of online classes said that this decision was mainly taken to ensure the well-being of first-year students and make sure that the pandemic doesn’t hamper their studies further since classes for second year and final year students had already culminated. He also said that the University will try to reduce the number of classes and work around the Academic Calendar to try and adjust the semester plan to make sure that the students don’t suffer because of the pandemic situation

Earlier, many students from the North and South campuses of DU had written to authorities for suspending classes and postponing exams, citing the Covid-19 spike as a major reason which made it difficult for them to study for exams and attend classes.
DU has already postponed final year examinations which were set to commence from May 15 to June 1, keeping in mind the sudden surge of cases of Covid-19 in the national capital. The decision to postpone final year exams was taken after a meeting with all Deans and Head of Departments of various colleges, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, decided to postpone exams in the best interests of the final year students
