The second edition of the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG 2023) commenced on May 21, 2023, amid enormous excitement and anticipation. The exam will be conducted for fifteen days and will end on June 6, 2023. On the second day of CUET UG 2023, papers on Language, General Tests, PCM and Humanities subjects were conducted. As straightforward questions were asked, students were very happy and excited. Students found the difficulty level of the test easy to moderate. Below is a detailed analysis of the exam conducted on 22nd May 2023:
Section I – English
SHIFT – 1
On Shift 1 of Day 2, the English paper for CUET (UG) 2023 was comparatively easier. Most of the students rated the exam easy even though they had varied opinions on the degree of easiness. Based on reading comprehension, 15 questions were asked, i.e., 3 passages with 5 questions each. One passage asked was on fiction, one on APJ Abdul Kalam, and the third one was a poem on sportsmanship. Compared to the other two passages, students found the poem a little difficult to comprehend. The options were very close even though the questions were direct. Therefore, students had to make smart choices.
Other major topics from which questions were asked were figures of speech and antonyms & synonyms. From these two topics, there were 5-6 questions each. Questions were asked from other minor topics such as idioms, active-passive voice, fill-in-the-blank and sentence correction. 2-3 questions were asked from each of these topics. The English paper tested the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary in the students. On the whole, the students felt comfortable as the paper was easy.
SHIFT – 2
On Shift 2 of Day 2, the English paper for CUET (UG) 2023 was easier. Most of the students rated the exam as easy. Based on reading comprehension, 15 questions were asked, i.e., 3 passages with 5 questions each. One passage asked was on fiction, one on the Kalinga War, and the third one was a poem on the effect of war. The options were tricky and needed to be dealt with smartly even though the questions were direct.
Questions were asked from other major topics such as para jumble, adjectives, and figures of speech. From each of these topics, 5-6 questions were asked. Moreover, Questions were asked from other minor topics such as idioms, active-passive voice, Antonyms & synonyms (Extravagant, Vanity, Victory), sentence correction and fill-in-the-blank. 2-3 questions were asked from each of these topics. The English paper tested the knowledge of grammar and vocabulary in the students. On the whole, the students felt comfortable as the paper was easy.
Section II – Domain Subject
Humanities – SHIFT – 2
History
Questions Asked:
- Chronology of Mahatma Gandhi’s Movements
- Multiple statements from various movements
- Year-based match the following
Two case studies were asked containing 5 questions each. Out of these 5 questions, 2 questions were asked directly from the passage. However, the rest of the questions asked were fact-based.
3-4 questions were asked from topics such as:
- An Imperial Capital: Vijayanagar
- Kings and Chronicles
- The Mughal courts
Questions were also asked from other topics such as Zamindars, Peasants, the Mughal Empire, the State Agrarian Society, Colonialism and the Countryside: Exploring Official Archives, Memories, Understanding Partition Politics, Experiences, etc.
Political Science
On Shift 2 of Day 2, Political Science was rated as Moderate.
Questions Asked:
- Recent Developments in Indian Politics (Coalition, name of coalitions, constitution, etc.)
- Cold War Era
- Rise of Popular Movements.
2-3 questions were asked from topics such as:
- US Hegemony in World Politics
- The End of Bipolarity
- Contemporary South Asia
- Alternative Centers of Power
- Security in Contemporary World
- International Organizations
- Globalization
- Environment and Natural Resources, etc.
Geography
On Shift 2 of Day 2, Geography was rated as Moderate.
Questions Asked:
- Identify the correct statement about pack animals
- Age- Sex Pyramid of which country is bell-shaped
- Identify the correct points about the human development report
- Which waterways serve Eastern Europe?
- A Question Based on Sugar Industry
- The largest linguistic group in India
- Lowest female literacy rate according to the 2011 census?
Science – SHIFT – 3
Physics
On Shift 3 of Day 2, Physics was rated as Moderate.

The mathematics paper was also scheduled in shift 3 of Day 2 of CUET UG 2023 along with the Physics and Chemistry papers. Students felt that the questions were easy. They were also provided with an extra time of 15 mins which was of much help.

On Shift 1 of Day 2, the General Test section was rated moderate. The questions asked were easy and pretty straightforward. From topics such as General Awareness, Mathematics & Statistics, Logic & Reasoning, Discovery & Invention, and Sports, questions were asked. Approximately 20-25 questions were asked from elementary mathematics and Questions were asked from the calendar and direction in the reasoning part.

On the whole, the students found the Day 2 of CUET UG 2023 more or less easy to moderate. Therefore, students appearing for the forthcoming exams can have their nerves calmed and prepare for their exams.
