The second edition of the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG 2023) commenced on May 21 amid enormous excitement and anticipation. The exam will be conducted for 15 days and will end on June 6. The paper of shifts 1 & 2 & 3 of day 1 ranged from Easy to Moderate. This time, as of now, there was no technical glitch reported. However, the timings were delayed in a few centres due to the humongous crowd shift. Also, students had to face some hassle.
On day 1, Shifts 1 & 2 were all about Language and General Tests. Very straightforward and easy questions appeared in the examination which made the students happy and excited. The experience of the exam of shifts 1 & 2 & 3 of day 1 must calm the nerves of the students a bit due to the anticipation and hype that was posed before the examination.
Exam Analysis in detail of May 21, 2023
The below article offers you a detailed analysis of the examinations, that is, the subject papers of the examination, the specific topics that were asked and the number of questions that were asked from each specific sub-topic. Moreover, from some topics, a significant number of questions were asked while from other topics, only a small portion of questions appeared.
Section I – English
SHIFT – 1
Day 1 & Shift 1 of the English paper for CUET (UG) 2023 was comparatively easier. Most of the students rated the exam as easy even though many students had varied opinions on the degree of easiness. Based on reading comprehension, 15 questions were asked, i.e., 3 passages of 5 questions each. Passages were a mixture of stories and poem extracts. However, the students found it easy to comprehend the extracts. While the questions were direct, the options were found to be very close.
Fill-in-the-blanks, para jumbles and one-word substitution were other important topics in English. From all three topics, there were 3 to 4 questions each. Antonyms, synonyms, fill-in-the-blanks, idioms, and spelling errors were other minor topics. A student’s acumen in grammar and vocabulary was tested by the English paper. On the whole, the students felt comfortable as the paper was easy.
SHIFT – 2
Day 1 & Shift 2 of the English paper for CUET (UG) 2023 was similar to Shift 1. None would rate it as difficult even though there were varying opinions about the paper. The opinions garnered were similar to that of the students who took the test in Shift 1. There were 3 passages of 5 questions each from reading comprehension and the passages were both extracts from poems and stories. Therefore, the total number of questions asked was 15. The comprehension level of the extracts was easy to moderate. Fill in the blanks, match the following, fact-based questions, etc., were questions from the paragraphs.
In shift 2, questions were asked about other major topics such as Incorrect/Correct statements & Direct/ Indirect speech. From these two topics, 3 to 5 questions were asked. There were questions from the identification of parts of speech and metaphor/ simile apart from the above-given topics. From all the topics from which questions were asked in Shift 1 (1 to 2 questions), there were 1 to 2 questions asked. On the whole, Students did not face much difficulty in the English paper in shift 2 as it was easy and the same as shift one.
Section II – Domain Subjects
SHIFT 3 – Science
Physics
On Shift 3 of Day 1, the Physics exam was held. The Difficulty level of the paper, as rated by the students was to be moderate in difficulty level. The Questions asked from various areas are given below.

The mathematics paper was rated by most of the students as easy to moderate in difficulty level. Among the PCM in Shift 3, Mathematics was the easiest. Moreover, there were no complaints of time constraints given by the candidates who took up the math paper, unlike last time. On the first day, i.e., May 21 of Shift 1, the General Test section was rated by the students as easy. Questions were asked on a variety of topics. Such topics included General Awareness, Mathematics & Statistics, Logic & Reasoning, Discovery & Invention, and Sports.
The General Test paper had approximately 20 to 25 questions from elementary mathematics, 12 to 15 questions appeared from General Awareness, Questions from calendar and direction appeared in the reasoning part, 12 to 15 questions appeared from General Awareness and 2 to 3 questions appeared from each History & Science. Moreover, 1 to 2 questions each appeared from Economics, Science, Discovery & Invention, Geography, and Sports.

The General Test section of Shift 2 consisted of approximately 22 to 24 questions from Numerical Ability, 10 to 12 questions from General Awareness and 6 to 7 questions from Logical Reasoning.

The Experience of the student on the whole in all the shifts of Day 1 of CUET (UG) 2023 was rated by most of the students as more or less easy to moderate only. However, there was a delay in the start and finish of the exam in a few centres. This was caused due to the hassle. This was due to the large number of candidates writing papers at one centre and their entry and exit. The National Testing Agency is expected to sort this issue at the earliest and moreover, organize the respective centres as soon as possible.
