  • Madras University was established in 1857 in Chennai. It is accredited by NAAC with an A Grade and the UGC has recognized the University as an Institute with “potential for excellence” in the country.
  • The University offers Under Graduate and Post Graduate Education through the 121 Affiliated Institutions spread across the state of Tamil Nadu. Research activities take place in various disciplines such as Arts, Humanities, Science, Management and Technology across the 53 approved research Institutions.  It also has 3 approved institutions, 5 institutions for diploma and certificate courses and 15 stand-alone institutions for professional education.
  • The University consists of four campuses in Chepauk, Guindy, Marina and Taramani with 68 University Departments of study and research organised into 18 Schools that offers Post Graduate Courses, part-time and full-time Ph.D. Programmes, Diploma and Certificate Programmes.

College Facilities :

  • Madras University consists of a Library on each of its four campuses to support the educational and research programs of the university. It provides print and online information with a comprehensive collection for the benefit of faculty, researchers and members of the affiliated institutions. It has a collection of nearly 3 lakh print collection which include several National and International Journals, General Magazines, Newspapers and around 15000 E-Resources which includes E-Books, E-Journals, E-Theses and Databases. The Library also extends services such as Photocopying, Facilities for visually Impaired, Online Reference, Online Current Awareness, Book Bank, Resource cell for competitive exams and many more.
  • International Centre for the University of Madras facilitates the international students and scholars to pursue their studies and research at the university and its affiliated institutions. International students hail from many countries such as the USA, Denmark, France, Sudan, Tanzania, Mauritius, Yemen, Thailand, China, Fiji, Nepal, Sri Lanka, etc.
  • Remedial Coaching is conducted for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Minority Communities students. Coaching for entrance into civil services, National Eligibility Test (NET) and State Eligibility Test (SET) are also conducted. Short Term courses are organized for developing job-skill in demanding service sectors and an internship program is organized for the science students during summer.
  • The University provides hostel accommodation for the students on all of its four campuses. The Campuses are also equipped with a cafeteria that provides nutritious and hygienic food for the students.
  • The University has an Industry Community Interaction Centre which aims to coordinate R&D projects between University departments and Industries and offer training programmes. Several industrial partners work with the departments of the University in certain areas of research.

Co Curricural Activities :

  • Inter-Department Cultural programs, International students’ day and sports events are organized for the students. Sports events help them to develop their mental and physical fitness. Students take part in various outdoor and indoor sports events such as Football, Tennis, Basketball, Ball Badminton, Power Lifting, Athletics, Chess, Table Tennis and so on. NSS activities are organized to develop their personality by involving them in community development.

Placement Cell :

Madras University provides career guidance to the students for their higher education. Placements are offered for Graduates and Postgraduates in Government, Private and Public sector organizations. It organizes Campus Recruitment for the students of University Departments and affiliated Colleges where corporates are invited to recruit our students for Job. It also arranges training for the Students of the affiliated Colleges to make them employable in this competitive World by developing their soft skills.
