CBSE releases the new guidelines for Class 10 and Class 12

The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced the new assessment scheme for the academic year 2021-2022. In this scheme, the syllabus will be divided into two equal halves with each term containing 50% of the syllabus. The decision was taken with the view of increasing the probability of a board-conducted exam for Classes 10 and 12.

The syllabus will be divided systematically by the subject experts by focusing on the interconnectivity of concepts. The examination will be conducted at the end of each term and it will be based on the divided syllabus. The syllabus will be rationalized and will be notified by July 2021.

The Internal assessments, practical work and projects will be made more credible and valid as per the guidelines announced by CBSE to ensure fair distribution of marks. As for Classes 9 and 10, the internal assessment will comprise of three periodic tests, student enrichment portfolio, practical and project work and other activities.

For classes 11 and 12, the internal assessment will comprise unit tests, exploratory activities, practical work and projects. Schools will create and maintain a record of the student profile for the assessments of the year in the digital format which will be uploaded on the CBSE IT platform.

Guidelines will be released along with the rationalized term-wise divided syllabus and the board would provide additional resources such as question banks, sample assessments and teacher training for making the internal assessments even more reliable and valid.
