Canadian International Development Scholarships – CAD 80M

The Canadian Prime Minister has announced the Canadian Development Scholarships 2030
program worth CAD 80 million for students from developing countries. The goal of the
scholarship program, as illustrated by Universities Canada, is to train, educate and empower
students from 24 developing countries.

The scholarship will be funded by Global Affairs Canada to emphasize the training and education of
high quality while addressing inequality. The scholarship is provided through a partnership
between the Universities Canada and Colleges and Institutes Canada, the West African
Economic and Monetary Union, the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences and the
Association of African Universities.

A package worth CAD 500 million is dedicated to key priority sectors such as food security,
gender equality, and climate change. The Canadian Prime Minister stated that they are focusing
on developing their ties with commonwealth countries to speed up the growth of the middle class
and create job opportunities while fighting climate change.

This scholarship program will empower people with education, mentorship, and leadership and
the Canadian institutions are also aiming to connect education leaders from across the globe to
develop future programs and tools.

The target of Universities Canada is to reach 7,000 people with the aid of this program with half
being women. The Canadian Development Scholarship program will contribute to a better,
equitable, and sustainable future. The resources and partnerships of 236 colleges and universities
in Canada will be strengthened through this scholarship with the Canadian institutions in
developing countries.
