Agreement between India and Australia on education qualification recognition mechanism

The main aim of this new mechanism is to enable the recognition of degrees of Indian students who have studied in Australia upon returning to their home country. Moreover, this mechanism will be of huge benefit to the large Indian diaspora in Australia, which is currently growing. The Indian Diaspora in Australia comprises five lakh individuals currently.

It was declared by the Australian Prime Minister that his nation and the government of India have reached a final agreement. According to an official statement, this agreement is in regard to the recognition mechanism between Australia and India for education qualifications. The news was disclosed during a recent program in which it was declared that an international branch campus of the Deakin University of Australia would be established in GIFT City located in Gandhinagar.

Aim of the New Agreement

The main aim of this new mechanism is to enable the recognition of degrees of Indian students who have studied in Australia upon returning to their home country. Moreover, this mechanism will be of huge benefit to the large Indian diaspora in Australia, which is currently growing. The Indian Diaspora in Australia comprises five lakh individuals currently.

The Indian Diaspora will feel more assured that their Qualifications obtained from India will be acknowledged in Australia. This agreement, according to the Australian Prime Minister is the ‘most comprehensive and ambitious arrangement’ which has been agreed to by India with any country. Also, this paves the way for commercial opportunities for providers of Australian education. Thus, Indian students can be offered innovative and more accessible education.

The Maitri Scholarship

Furthermore, a new scholarship namely the ‘Maitri scholarship’ was also announced by the Australian Prime Minister for Indian students in order to study in Australia for a maximum of four years. These scholarships are part of the wider Maitri program. They seek to boost educational, cultural, and community ties between Australia and India. Similarly, a plan to establish a campus at GIFT City has also been made by the University of Wollongong. Moreover, with the country welcoming them, Australia is very much pleased to have a large number of foreign students returning this year.

The Australian Prime Minister also discussed the sister-city agreement between Gujarat and New South Wales in Australia in 2018. He highlighted the people-to-people connections between Gujarat and Australia that has been existing for a significant period. However, everyone is not given the opportunity to study in another country due to various issues such as financial constraints or family commitments. Thus, this will offer you the opportunity of studying on a campus of a different country and also the opportunity and need to stay close to home.
