Admissions go test-optional in Illinois Public Universities

Admissions go test-optional in Illinois Public Universities
  • Illinois Public Universities has adopted the change enacted by the Higher Education Fair Admissions Act and will go for test-optional admissions. This change is adopted to reverse the decrease in enrollment and increase the diversity at public universities.
  • It was found in a 2020 study that Black and Hispanic students scored lower marks on the SAT math section than white and Asian students. Students who are discouraged by lower test scores will be able to open up for collegiate options under test-optional admissions.
  • Some students, however, state that the universities would assume that they have scored less in the tests if they didn’t submit the scores. They have doubts on whether the college will not penalize applicants without scores but still, the new law is a step in the right direction.
